Just read in the news today that there will be a new fare hike effective May 21st. Php 8 will the minimum fare for jeepneys and 11.50 for aircon buses. Add up to that are the rising cost of commodities. Which really means that we have to find means to save or have some extra income.

So here’s the question for this week : Can you share any budget or money saving tips that you find effective?

I know this will be pretty interesting and we will learn from each others answers. :) I’ll post my answers later.

The Rules:

The aim of these questions is to share opinions and experiences among moms (or dads) in the blogosphere.
Each week a new question will be posted and I’m inviting mom and dads to answer and share their thoughts about it.

In the family, I’m the one who is spendthrift so I handle all our money affairs.  JSo here are my tipid tips

  1. Always buy things in sachet.  They are around 20-25% cheaper than you buy in nice containers.
  2. Always have a budget and stick to it.  Before we go to the grocery, I have a list of necessary thing to buy.  Then we have an allowable limit to spend for that.  So I always stick to the list.  Hubby, usually picks up things that are not on the list most of the times and that is okay as long as we are still on the budget.  I often separate those needs and wants at check out counter and once I hit the limit, I tell hubby to buy his stuff next time.  Hahaha!  He finds this cruel at first but after I should him how little expenses accumulate to form a big expense at the end of the mouth, he zipped and let me handle it.  Hahaha!
  3. Set aside money for your savings first.  That way, as Robert Kiyosaki said, you pay yourself first.  Then the remaining parts will go to pay the bills and other necessities.  It’s helpful that our savings account doesn’t have any ATM card with it.  It discourages us to withdraw our funds.
  4. Once you have built your egg nest, the other money that you have should be invested.  M0rn1ng and I love running a business and a certain amount of our money is in there.  Then we also got some mutual funds.  My other friend is encouraging me to buy some stocks but M0rn1ng and I hesitate because of the volatility of our market.
  5. Have some raket or sidelines that can generate money on the side.  I’ve been into this paid blogging thing that generates a lot.  I have fun and I also earn on the side.  I also registered at Avon so I get discount to products that I also use and I sell easily in the office.  All I have to do is show them the brochure and ask them if they want to order.  I also don’t have any problems with asking payment kasi takot ata sila sa akin.  Hehehe.
  6. Wait for SALEs to buy the things that you want.  I usually keep a list of my “want to haves” and I wait for sales to buy them.
  7. To save electricity, have a good distance between the fridge and the walls.  Schedule ironing once a week, and always use CF: instead of incandescent bulbs.  Do not leave appliances plugged when not in use.  If an AVR is used, unplug it from the outlet and turn it off.
  8. To save from gas, it is best to prepare all ingredients before cooking.  Also, thaw frozen food completely before cooking.
  9. When buying an air-con, make sure it has a timer and utilize it well.  Usually, the room is comfortably cool after 4-5 hours and it can be sustained by a fan.
  10.  Live within your means.  The secret is contentment.
