Chicken soup has long been used as a folk remedy for respiratory ailments such as colds. As reported in the book Food—Your Miracle Medicine, Dr. Irwin Ziment, lung specialist at the University of California at Los Angeles, explains how it works: “Chicken, like most protein foods, contains a natural amino acid called cysteine, which is released when you make the soup. Cysteine bears a remarkable chemical similarity to a drug called acetylcysteine, which doctors prescribe for their patients with bronchitis and respiratory infections.” This drug, originally derived from chicken feathers and skin, is a mucolytic, that is, it thins down and promotes the flow of mucus from the nose, throat, and lungs. Chicken soup acts in much the same way. To make the soup an even more effective congestion fighter, Dr. Ziment suggests adding garlic, onions, and hot spices like chili peppers.
Welcome!
If you are currently reading this then you have found our very special place in the web. I say OUR, for this site is a joint collaboration of two working mommies who found each other online and became bosom buddies. They share the same faith, same love for their families, same nurturing instinct for their kids and same business interests. Amore has one daughter aged 3 while Nice has a son aged 1.
This will be a site wherein they will share their thoughts as moms. They will share their everyday experiences in attaining balance between work and family. Some business ideas to help augment the monthly income will also be discussed. Most importantly this site will also feature their experiences in parenting.
We fervently hope that your first visit won?t be the last and in our own little way we may be able to share something that can be useful to you somehow. Welcome to Momma Stuff! :)

I absolutely agree with you, dear author. Chicken soup is one of the best natural remedies for cold. More to that: the mentioned cysteine forms another important compound called glutathione, which is a very powerful antioxidant and has numerous useful properties, starting from protecting our skin and ending with anti-aging and anti-cancer effects. Thank you very much for this article! Everyone should use warm chicken soup (with 2-3 drops of lemon, maybe) to fight against cold.
i love to eat Chicken Soup, my mom used to always serve that dish with me specially when i am sick during my childhood days.
